  • Who is Art Therapy for?

  • Do I need to be good at art?

    No prior experience is required. Art therapy is not about how good the art is but more about process and what it means for you. Being creative is very accessible and can be adapted for all personal or physical needs.

  • How long can I do art therapy for?

    The duration of art therapy varies based on individual needs and goals. While some may seek short-term therapy for specific concerns, others may engage in longer-term sessions for deeper exploration and growth. The frequency and duration of sessions are determined collaboratively between the client and therapist, allowing for ongoing assessment and evaluation of progress.

  • Does Art therapy work?

  • What happens to my art work?

    Any art work you create belongs to you and as such you get to decide what happens to your work. Sometimes it is beneficial to look back on things we create as it can provide us with a different perspective. But equally it can also be cathartic to dispose of it whether that is by yourself or by your art therapist. This can be discussed within sessions.

  • Do I need to create art every session?

    Nope, it’s your time to use and although art materials are incredibly useful to express and explore aspects within our own lives. Sometimes, being creative can present in different ways writing, metaphor, facial expressions, gestures, tone of voice, mood, pace of speech and postures.

  • How long does a session last?

    One to one sessions will last up to 1 hr while group therapy ranges between 1.5 hrs- 2 hours. Within this time you will have the opportunity to create and reflect on the work. It is your choice how you use this time and you can work with your therapist to find the right balance for you.

  • Does the Art therapist interpret my art?

    No, I wont interpret your art as only you will know what it means or represents. However, if appropriate I may offer observations in a non- judgmental manner with the primary goal of understanding your thoughts, feelings and experiences. I may facilitate dialogue around the symbolism or significance for you within the context of your therapeutic journey.

  • Is art therapy right for me?

    Finding the right form of therapy for you can be challenging and it doesn’t always work first time. At the start of the therapeutic process you will engage in a assessment period in which both you and the therapist will explore if art therapy is right for you. Ultimately, having a willingness engage with art materials, explore and reflect on your own emotions and self would suggest a good foundation to build upon.
